Become a Precinct Committeeperson

The most important local office most people have never heard of, and the party needs you to fill it.

Matters
The Backbone of the Party

Why It Matters

A precinct committeeperson is the grassroots officer of the Republican Party, the neighbor who registers voters, knocks doors, staffs the polls, and carries our message street by street. It is the foundation the entire party is built on.

Yet across Illinois, many precincts have no Republican committeeperson at all. Every empty seat is a neighborhood with no organized Republican presence, no one turning out our voters or defending our values where you live. That gap is exactly where elections are won or lost.

What It Takes

How to Run

The bar to serve is lower than most people think.

👤

Who Can Run

Any registered Republican voter who lives in the precinct. You may even sign and circulate your own petition.

✍️

Just 10 Signatures

Your petition needs only 10 signatures from registered voters of your party in your precinct (10 ILCS 5/7-10).

💵

Little to No Cost

There is no filing fee, and precinct committeepersons are not required to file a Statement of Economic Interests. The role is a volunteer, unpaid party position.

Key Dates & Where to Start

Precinct committeepersons are elected at the General Primary, held in even-numbered years. Petition packets and the official circulation and filing windows are handled by the Marion County Clerk.

Because exact deadlines change every cycle, confirm the current petition circulation dates and filing deadline with the Marion County Clerk and the Illinois State Board of Elections before you begin, and start gathering your 10 signatures early.
